SUMMARY:Outing: Visit Worcester in its Victorian Heydays!
DESCRIPTION:Step back into the time of corsets\, calling cards\, and pocket watches- the days of your grandparents. \nOn July 18\, the Norfolk Senior Center will host A Trip to Worcester in its Victorian Heydays!  Your guide will be longtime Worcester resident Frances Perkins (portrayed by Janet Parnes\, Historical Portrayals by Lady J). Miss Perkins was the 1st woman to serve in the US Cabinet (FDR’s Secretary of Labor). \nSee Frances’ childhood home. Learn the rags-to-restoration story behind the 1911 Union Train Station; cringe\, chuckle\, and marvel at Worcester’s corset industry (we’ll discuss “all things corset”) Tour the E.N. Jenckes Store Museum\, operating from 1833 to 1965. Gawk at the 1800s “washing machine”; turn of the century coffee grinder and “medicines” Enjoy a typical (simple) Victorian lunch in the Store Museum. \nAnd more.. \nDiscover how Worcester transformed from an agricultural community to a hub of industry and innovation; from a town in the center of the state to the Heart of the Commonwealth. \nRegistration required. Call Debbie Sand at the Senior Center 508-528-4430.to choose turkey\, roast beef or egg salad sandwich. Cost is $50 due  at the reservation. Limited to 19 people. Must take Senior-Center van. Call by July 10. \n  \n
